A "consignment store" evaluate items from people, including used items to sale on their behalf. Once the item sales, the owner receives a portion of the proceeds.
A "thrift store" accepts donations from people and sell them for profit in which they keep all the proceeds.
Although both stores sell used items, a consignment stores takes extra steps to make sure the items being sold are in "re-sellable" condition. This is not standard at most thrift stores. Consignment stores usually have certain items they will not accept and stay within a 3 year manufacture period. Thrift stores do not have these policies. Both are a great place to find deals but if you want a quality item every time without going through a bunch of stuff that might not be for you, try shopping at a consignment store first.
